Suzie West says

“I am delighted to be leading Barbican Theatre’s FUSE DIVERSE DANCE project. This is the project I have been waiting for! It’s an opportunity for me to find out more about the rich diversity of dance practised in the city and to help develop it.  As a local girl to Plymouth, I’m ready to pour my practice, pride and people skills into my city and join a team of like-minded colleagues at Barbican Theatre”.

Barbican Theatre CEO Sheila Snellgrove says

“Suzie was a natural choice for this exciting, innovative new role. Her experience, knowledge and passion for dance is inspiring. She has a clear idea of how to develop the FUSE project and connect it deeply in diverse communities, empowering people through their engagement. Everyone at Barbican Theatre is thrilled to have Suzie on board and we’re looking forward to working with her over the next few months and beyond”

Barbican Theatre has a strong history of dance development over the last 30 years and FUSE is the exciting next step. FUSE is a brand new diverse dance project funded by Arts Council England. It aims to create a new way of making dance by bringing together diverse communities, local dancers and guest choreographers as equal partners –  to have fun, share dance styles and create mind blowing new performances for public audiences.

Suzie will now be working on her plans to build a dynamic team that will create the first FUSE dance production in February 2019.
