Barbican Theatre’s ‘Bard In The Yard’ summer Shakespeare returns for a third year

Barbican Theatre is delighted to announce it will be bringing a joyful, highly visual and accessible version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to the stunning Residence One Garden at Royal William Yard this August.

Twelfth Night is the third production in our popular ’Bard in the Yard’. This follows two hugely successful previous summer productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2015) and Romeo & Juliet (2016). This production is part of Barbican Theatre’s commitment to creating high quality, accessible work while supporting and developing local talent.

A total of 18 performances will be staged outdoors in the stunning Residence One Garden at Royal William Yard from 2 – 20 August and is perfect for the whole family.
Twelfth Night is a story where nobody is quite what they seem and absolutely anything seems possible. Identical twins are shipwrecked and lost from each other in a strange, upside down world. To survive “she” pretends to be a ”he” and “he” ends up caught in a mad tangle of love.

Barbican Theatre’s Artistic Director, Mark Laville, who is Producing Twelfth Night, says;
“Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s chaotic comedy about partying, identity, cross-dressing and the search for true love. After the success of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo & Juliet we know Twelfth Night will be an exceptional experience when produced specifically for the magnificent garden at Residence One. I’m really looking forward to working with the team to create a performance the whole family will enjoy.”

The Barbican Theatre’s Trip Advisor and Facebook pages received many positive reviews following 2016’s Romeo & Juliet, including,
★★★★★ “Fabulous – full of movement and energy! Attention to detail and organisation so well thought through – a pleasure to attend and be enthralled”.
★★★★★ “The talent and energy of the actors blew me away…I recommend this performance to anyone. Shakespeare fan or not”
★★★★★ “Absolutely amazing… what a performance. They had you gripped from the very start… everyone should go and experience this. A beautiful location for a fantastic play. I had an afternoon to remember. Even the other half, who is not into Shakespeare, had a wonderful time”.

Following a successful partnership for Romeo & Juliet in summer 2016, Barbican Theatre are delighted to announce Plymouth Audi as the main platinum sponsor of Twelfth Night.
Louise Herbert, Head of Business for Plymouth Audi says
“Plymouth Audi are extremely excited to be supporting Barbican Theatre and their summer production for the second year running. Development of culture and arts in Plymouth is very important, so Plymouth Audi are proud to be a part of a project that does just this. We’re all really looking forward to being at Royal William Yard to see their unique performance of Twelfth Night showcasing the amazing talents that Plymouth has to offer”.

Barbican Theatre is also very happy to announce the gold sponsors of Twelfth Night as Plymouth Marjon University and Column Bakehouse.
