Pre-show information for Macbeth at Royal William Yard audiences (31 July – 11 August)

Our cast and crew have been working incredibly hard and we’re very proud of our production and we sincerely believe you will all have a wonderful time in the stunning Residence One Garden at Royal William Yard from 31 July – 11 August.

So we’ve put together some (hopefully helpful!) information for you ahead of your visit:

Getting to Royal William Yard

There is plenty of parking at Royal William Yard. Payment is now required upon arrival (previously it was pay on exit) and there are pay stations throughout the Yard which take cash and card. You can also use pay by phone . Alternatively, the number 34 bus (operated by Plymouth Citybus) serves Royal William Yard from Plymouth City Centre with a number of later evening buses. Or you can catch the ferry from the Barbican to Royal William Yard (one way as ferries only run until early evening)

Directions to Residence One Garden

There will be signage directing you to Residence One as soon as you enter Royal William Yard – for those who know Royal William Yard well it is on the left of the main green (with the cows, deck chairs and this year the giant red squid!) just before the archway down to the beach. If not just follow the red and white signage with the Macbeth crowns on them! (Please see below for details of how to get to the wet weather venue if we need to use that).

Alternative venue if it rains – The Plymouth Athenaeum

All 14 performances are due to be held in the Residence One secret garden, however there is a wet weather venue arranged as a backup if it rains continually / severely. This is The Plymouth Athenaeum theatre on Derry’s Cross. Here is a link to it on google maps

MAP OF PLYMOUTH ATHENAEUM LOCATION

The full address is The Plymouth Athenaeum, Derry’s Cross, Plymouth PL1 2SW. The theatre is located behind Theatre Royal Plymouth along from Gala Bingo, Reel Cinema and Lorenzo’s and opposite the Travelodge (those of a certain age may remember the old TSW tv studios on that road!)

The call on whether to move performances to The Plymouth Athenaeum will be made by 11am on the day of a performance, at which point we will contact audiences should we decide to move the show indoors. Pre-bookers will be contacted via email and/or phone, therefore it is vital that we have an up-to-date telephone and/or email address for you on your Barbican Theatre account. To check your details are correct please click here to login to your account, sign in and check/add your contact details. Alternatively, please call 01752 267131 (Mon – Fri 11am – 6pm) or email info@barbicantheatre.co.uk and we can update for you. We will also post updates on our Facebook and Twitter feeds

The Plymouth Athenaeum is a wonderful theatre space and should we have to move any performances there we are certain you will still have a very enjoyable experience of the play (although we are quietly optimistic we may not need to use it at all based on the current two-week weather forecast)!

Ticket collection / on the door purchase

If you’ve not yet collected your tickets from Barbican Theatre they will be available for you to collect at the box office at Residence One (or if it’s raining at The Plymouth Athenaeum) on the day. Our Box Office will be open from 6pm for 7pm performances and 1pm for 2pm performances. For performances not yet sold out tickets can be bought on the door (subject to availability on the day.)

Seating

Chairs are provided for all ticket holders. There are also some blankets and cushions if you prefer to sit / lay at the front. Seating is unreserved and allocated on a first come first served basis.

Disabled access

If you require disabled access please call us on 01752 267131 to discuss your requirements. Due to the nature of the Residence One garden and Royal William Yard site it is vital if you’re in a wheelchair or require aid to walk that you let us know before your visit so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Audience comfort

We would advise all attendees of evening performances to bring an extra layer of clothing, or a blanket if they prefer. Once the sun sets it can tend to feel a little chilly, even if it has been a warm, sunny day (this was the case last year!) If it should rain during a performance we ask that umbrellas not be used as this can cause obstruction to audience members behind you and can also cause injury (due to the spikey ends end of the umbrella spokes)

Dogs

Dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed entry to the garden or Plymouth Athenaeum. This is part of the licence conditions of using the garden / Plymouth Athenaeum for the event.

Small children

Children over 18 months require a child ticket / seat. Babies / toddlers are welcome however must sit on their parents / carers lap. Parents / carers are asked to be considerate of other audience members and the cast and should their child become upset or agitated they should leave the seating / stage area and not return until the child has settled.

The performance is suitable for family viewing, with an age guidance of being suitable for ages 8 and up. However, we will advise due to the nature of Macbeth there are obviously battles, fights and deaths plus some loud noises so it might not be suitable for very small children or babies. If you have any questions please contact our Box Office on 01752 267131 (Mon – Fri 11am – 6pm)

B-Bar in the garden!

The  B-Bar team will have a mix of alcoholic and soft drinks, including jugs of Pimms plus ice cream during the interval!

We would advise the audience to pre order their interval drinks before the show starts, so that queuing time is minimal.

Please note the bar is cash only. Gaucho Grill will accept cards & cash. (there is no cash machine anywhere at Royal William Yard) Column Bakehouse picnic boxes can only be pre-ordered and are not available to buy on the day.

Gaucho BBQ and B-bar  in the garden will be open from 6pm for evening performances and 1pm for matinees. BBQ food will stop being served ten minutes before the show starts and will not be available during the interval. In the event of wet weather (see above) hot food will not be available at The Plymouth Athenaeum. There will however be a bar at the Athenaeum. If you have pre-ordered picnic boxes from Column Bakehouse they will deliver them to the Athenaeum for you to enjoy in the upper lounge,

And lastly… we hope you enjoy the performance. If you do take any pictures (please no flash photography)
