I can date my life by shows. The first one we did at the Barbican was Town and Country. It was the first full length piece that I did and that’s where the company as people now know it really properly started.
One of the things I remember is turning up to the Barbican and going to the box office on the morning of the show. I’d ask ‘How many people have booked?’ They’d say ’35′ and I’d think ‘WOW!’
With a smaller audience and venue, you can feel them in the room. Often people will stick around after for a chat. You don’t get that with bigger theatres. You can play to thousands of people and come out afterwards to find they’ve all gone home.Read More
