Description

Barbican Theatre and Young People

DANCE  |  ACT |  INNOVATE  |  CREATE

  • Do you want a career in Performing Arts?
  • Do you want to voice and develop your ideas?
  • Do you want to become more confident and improve your well-being?
  • Do you want to learn and develop new techniques and skills?
  • Do you want to perform on stage and in unusual locations?
  • Do you want to learn about the technical, teaching and producing elements of performing arts?

Barbican Theatre Performance Training classes offer something a bit different. Young people choose the subject, they devise, they choreograph, they make the performances happen – as actors, dancers, technicians, producers, directors, even workshop leaders. The work created is by, with and for young people.

We want to create unusual, challenging, edgy, relevant, high quality performance and we need the best young artists in the city to help us do that.

What will I gain from Performance Training?

In our fun, lively classes you will develop technical skills in dance or theatre whilst making new friends, building confidence and improving your health and well-being. Many members of Performance Training go on to train at some of the top performing arts schools and colleges in the country.

What ages is Performance Training for?

From September 2017 we will run the following Performance Training classes:

For ages 12 – 16 Dance Junction & Theatre Junction

For ages 14 – 25 COMPANY b Dance & COMPANY b Theatre

For ages 15 – 25 FORCE arts leadership training programme in danceor theatre facilitation, technical production or arts management.

We also have INDRA Plymouth (ages 12 – 16) which is our internationally connected theatre group.

How is the year split?

Bursaries

We do not want money to be a barrier to young people. For that reason a limited number bursaries are available. Please email rosie@barbicantheatre.co.uk for more information

    Hi

I have booked my 9 year old daughter onto the theatre moves taster session.
Could you tell me please what time the normal theatre moves lessons will take place. Will they begin at 6.15 p.m and what day will be on?

    Thanks

i am slightly confused as to the prices of the theatre moves workshop. My friend Charlotte who introduced my daughter to this group told me that this class would be about £60 a term for both the dance and theatre workshops (about £5 a session) or half that for one of the workshops only ( ie either theatre or dance). Please could you confirm the full price for attending the theatre moves only workshop? thanks. Donna Watson

      Hi Donna
      Many thanks for your question.
Theatre Moves and Dance Moves are two seperate classes, the cost per class per term is £60. If a young person wanted to participate in both Dance and Theatre Moves the total cost would be £120 per term.
If you have any questions please let me know, you can email me at karen@barbicantheatre.co.uk.
      Best wishes
      Karen
