A Christmas Carol is a co-production presented by Barbican Theatre and Le Navet Bete. Following the sell-out success of our previous Christmas co-production of The Jungle Book in 2016 (which had extensive waiting lists) we are delighted to be moving our 2017 Christmas production to the magnificent Plymouth Athenaeum, which has a larger 330 capacity (Barbican Theatre only has up to 144). This follows us bringing Le Navet Bete’s Dracula: The Bloody Truth to the Athenaeum last Easter, which was a huge success and the first theatrical performance there in over 8 years.

The inimitable Le Navet are back for their seventh Christmas in Plymouth with their hilarious and unique take on the classic A Christmas Carol, co-produced with Barbican Theatre. A festive physical comedy treat for the whole family featuring all the much loved Dickensian characters plus a few extra for good measure – it is Christmas after all!

There will be 32 performances of A Christmas Carol between 14 December and 7 January, with a total potential audience of 10,560. As we mentioned above we sold 100% of seats for The Jungle Book in 2016 with extensive waiting lists.  Sales for A Christmas Carol are already ahead of those for The Jungle Book and we are confident we will reach sales targets for this year. 

Some statistics…

  • We have an active customer email database (of people who have opted to receive emails) of 5103
  • 64% of our Christmas show audience members come from these postcodes: PL3, PL9, PL7, PL5, PL6, PL1, PL4, PL2, PL12, PL21.
  • 32% of all Christmas show tickets sold are family tickets (a family ticket offers a discount when purchasing 2 adult tickets and 2 under 16s).
  • Approximately 93,000 people access the Barbican Theatre building a year, either attending performances or visiting as customers of the cafe/bar (this equates to approx. 7,750 people a month).
  • As of 20 September 2017 our Social Media follower figures are:

  • There are an average of 11,833 sessions per month on Barbican Theatre’s website (barbicantheatre.co.uk) which is a 12% increase compared to 2016.
