Whether you’re brand new to performance, getting back into it after a break, or ready to push your skills even further, Barbican Theatre’s refreshed Adult Creative Classes are here to help you explore, connect, and grow—wherever you're starting from.
Launching in a brand-new format from September 2025, our weekly adult sessions offer something for everyone, from curious beginners to confident performers. With an emphasis on creativity, community, and confidence-building, these classes are designed to support personal and artistic development in a relaxed, welcoming space.
ACTivate: A Creative Starting Point
For beginners and returners
ACTivate is our no-pressure drama class for adults who want to explore performance, reconnect with their creativity, or simply try something new. No experience is needed—just a sense of curiosity and a willingness to give it a go.
Each week, you’ll be guided through playful, confidence-building exercises and collaborative group work, all led by friendly and experienced facilitators.

Whether you’ve never set foot on stage or haven’t in years, ACTivate is the place to start.
EXCELerate: Take Your Skills Further
For experienced performers
If you’ve already had some experience in acting and are looking for deeper creative development, EXCELerate offers a focused, ensemble-based programme for adult performers who want to push their practice further.
Each weekly session includes structured training, performance techniques, and collaborative ensemble work designed to stretch your skills and prepare you for further performance or professional opportunities.
All new participants attend a short introductory workshop to ensure the right fit and help build a strong, supportive group.

Adults seeking a deeper creative challenge in a safe, professional space
Plus: One-Off Masterclasses (18+)
Throughout the year, we also offer Masterclasses led by visiting industry professionals. These focused sessions explore specialist areas like directing, voice work, stage combat, and more—perfect for topping up your skills or trying out something completely new.
How to Get Involved
Barbican Theatre’s adult creative classes begin week commencing 22 September 2025, with bookings opening in summer. Spaces are limited and early booking is encouraged.
