A Message From Barbican Theatre

Over the past few months, we’ve been making some changes at Barbican Theatre in response to ongoing financial pressures, both within the organisation and across the wider sector.

We want to be open that we have now completed a restructure of the organisation. This has included changes to our team and how we work day to day. These have been difficult decisions, and we want to acknowledge and thank the colleagues who have contributed so much to Barbican Theatre and who are now moving on.

This process has been about making sure Barbican Theatre can continue into the future on a more sustainable footing. While our structure is now leaner, our purpose remains the same.

We remain fully committed to supporting young people and creatives, and creating inclusive, high-quality opportunities for people to engage with the arts. That work will continue but we will be delivering it in different ways.

Going forward, we will be working with a smaller core team and a more flexible approach, collaborating closely with freelance practitioners, partners and communities to shape and deliver our programmes. This allows us to stay responsive, focused and sustainable, while keeping people and participation at the heat of what we do.

We know that change can feel uncertain. What hasn’t changed is why this place matters - to us, and to so many of you.

Barbican Theatre has always been shaped by the people who are part of it - our team, audiences, artists, participants and partners. That shared sense of connection is keeps it going.
