Contemporary British Folk-Rock with a 70s Heart

Julie July and her acclaimed band make their debut performance at the Barbican, Plymouth bringing their distinctive blend of contemporary British folk-rock, expressive vocals, rich harmonies and evocative storytelling.

Having delighted audiences here in previous years, Julie July is thrilled to return to one of her favourite summer gatherings, celebrating the timeless sounds of the 1970s alongside exciting original material from the band's critically praised fourth album, Diamond Rainbows.

The band's musical roots are deeply connected to the legendary Sandy Denny, whose remarkable songwriting and unmistakable voice helped define the golden era of British folk-rock. Julie first came to prominence performing songs from Sandy's celebrated catalogue, honouring her legacy with sensitivity and authenticity.

Over the years, the Julie July Band has developed its own distinctive musical identity, combining the spirit of classic British folk-rock with accomplished contemporary songwriting, expressive musicianship and beautifully crafted vocal harmonies.

Released in June 2026, the band's fourth original album, Diamond Rainbows, marks another exciting chapter in their musical journey. Featuring a collection of original songs, the album captures the warmth, melodic richness and creative freedom of 70s folk-rock, reimagined for the 21st century.

Drawing inspiration from Fleetwood Mac, Fairport Convention, Carole King, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Steeleye Span, the Julie July Band deliver an uplifting live experience filled with memorable melodies, outstanding musicianship and heartfelt performances.

Expect an evening of captivating contemporary folk-rock, beautifully woven harmonies, classic influences and exciting original music — all delivered with the warmth, energy and authenticity that have become hallmarks of the Julie July Band.
