Thank you, B-Bar — and what’s next at Barbican Theatre
For many years, B-Bar has been part of the rhythm of Barbican Theatre — a place to meet friends, share a drink, enjoy tasty noodles while watching a local act, have a post-show chat, and feel at home in the building.
For a lot of people, B-Bar has also been part of growing up in Plymouth: a first pre-show drink, a late conversation after a performance, a familiar place to gather before heading home. For two decades, the B-Bar team has supported countless artists, audiences and events, helping to shape the welcoming atmosphere that so many people associate with Barbican Theatre.
As B-Bar closes this chapter and moves on to new projects, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate that contribution. We’re grateful to the team for the care, creativity and commitment they’ve brought to the space, and we wish them every success in what comes next.
What does this mean for audiences?
Barbican Theatre isn’t going anywhere — and neither is the warm welcome.
From April, the theatre will bring the bar operation in-house as part of a planned transition. This allows us to simplify the offer, look after the space more directly, and make sure the bar continues to work well for audiences, artists and staff.
You’ll still be able to enjoy a drink before and after performances, and the theatre will remain a place to meet, relax and spend time together. While the offer may be simpler, our commitment to friendliness, accessibility and hospitality stays exactly the same.
We’ll share more details about the updated bar offer soon. In the meantime, thank you to B-Bar for being part of our story — and we look forward to welcoming you for the next chapter at Barbican Theatre.
