A quick bit of clarity about B-Bar and Barbican Theatre

We’ve had lots of messages and comments, and we really appreciate how much B-Bar has meant to so many people. We know change can feel unsettling and confusing, so we wanted to share a follow up. 

B-Bar (including the Noodle Bar food offer) is a separate business that has been leasing the downstairs space from Barbican Theatre. The B-Bar has decided to move on to new projects and it doesn’t mean the theatre is closing.

Barbican Theatre remains open and will be running the bar in-house from April. Drinks will still be available before and after shows.

Live music and performances aren’t going anywhere either. As a charity, we remain committed to supporting grassroots, local and emerging artists, and we’ll continue programming events across our stages.

The current restaurant area will become a place to relax before a show and will continue to be used as a performance space.

Is The B-Bar closing?
Yes - the independent business operating as The B-Bar is closing this chapter and moving on to new exciting projects, and we wish the whole team the best for the future.

Is the bar closing completely?
No. The bar will open after a short transition period and will be run by Barbican Theatre.

Will there still be drinks before and after shows?
Yes. Drinks will continue to be available as part of your visit.

Is the theatre closing or reducing its programme?
No. Barbican Theatre remains fully open, with a full programme of performances at both Barbican Theatre and The Quad Theatre.

What about live music in the bar?
Live music and performances will continue on the downstairs stage. Creating opportunities and supporting grassroots and championing local artists remains a key part of our work.

Why can’t the bar keep the name The B-Bar?
The name ‘The B-Bar’ belongs to the independent business that has been operating the space. When that business ends its lease at the end of March, the name comes to an end too.

Are the B-Bar noodles coming back?
The noodle bar was part of The B-Bar operation, so it won’t continue in its current form. We know many people will miss it — we will too, it has been the lunch of choice for many Barbican Theatre staff over the years.
